Sam Israel
What record did Sam Israel choose to spend his first pocket money on when his dad took him along to a second-hand record shop when he was five years old? Abba’s 1975 eponymous album of course!
It was 1992 and Abba were big again thanks to the likes of Abba Gold released that year as well as Australian movies Muriel’s Wedding and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
Featuring classic songs such as Mamma Mia, SOS and I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, this album ignited something in Sam that’s burned inside him to this day – a love of pop music.
Raiding his parents forgotten LP collection his childhood years were spent playing Blondie, Kate Bush, The Mamas and The Papas and other classic bands.
Then came The Spice Girls followed by Britney, then Christina Aguilera, then Girls Aloud – you get the picture!
As well as pop music, Sam has always had a passion for radio and the behind-the-scenes aspect of music. At 16 he did work experience at a radio station and went on to study Music Technology at college.
As well as a love for music, Sam is proudly Jewish and takes an active role within his local Jewish community.
When he’s not playing records or at the Synagogue, Sam is also into power lifting and spends most of his time in the gym. He is also a very keen traveller and loves flying off to various places around Europe as well as spending time in Tel Aviv – his spiritual home.
